The Santarelli Glyptics at the Capitoline Museums
T
0The Foundation granted the entire glyptic collection - consisting of around 600 works including cameos, carvings, beetles and seals, spanning five millennia of history, on a 10-year free loan to the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The musealisation of the entire collection was inaugurated in February 2012 in the two rooms facing the Medagliere. In the first evocative room, using a display system reminiscent of a Wunderkammer, the gems were exhibited, subdivided by era: Mesopotamia, Etruria, Ancient Greece, Republican and Imperial Rome, the Early Middle Ages, the Frederician era, the Renaissance, the Baroque up to Neoclassicism; in the second, there is a complete didactic apparatus, consisting of explanatory panels, multimedia tools - with totems displaying all the works in the Wunderkammer and their explanatory captions - and films illustrating the technical procedures of the art of glyptics.
